DGP Abhayanand to accept FIRs from 'harried' complainants

The Times of India Writes :

PATNA: DGP Abhayanand has initiated anovel move to accept FIRs from complainants shooed away by police stations.
While meeting people at his office chamber on Monday, the DGP came across two visitors - one from East Champaran and the other from Nalanda - who complained that their complaints were not being accepted by police station officials.
The top cop immediately ordered a junior officer to record their statements. After the statements were submitted to the DGP, he directed his office to send a runner to the two districts to ensure lodging of FIRs.
The DGP told TOI police stations normally don't refuse complaints about serious offences. They may, however, tend not to lodge FIRs in cases of minor scuffle or the like.
Asked if his move won't result in the DGP office becoming an extended police station, Abhayanand said that shouldn't be a problem. "At least I would know which district leads in refusing to accept FIRs," he said and added follow up remedial action would be initiated against erring cops.
The DGP said he would continue visiting the districts to have a first-hand feel of the problems facing the cops at the police station level and know what could be done at the police HQ level to solve them. He has already visited Rohtas and Gaya, and the next on his itinerary is Muzaffarpur district.
