PATNA: In order to facilitate quick drawal of cash from bank by police constables and their family members, the police headquarters is planning to install at least one ATM of State Bank of India (SBI) in each police line across the state.
DGP Abhayanand on Tuesday made a formal request to the chief general manager, SBI, in this regard and the latter agreed in principle to provide such facility to cops. The DGP told TOI that all constables in the state get their salary through SBI. Constables get their salary on the first day of the month. But since their families stay at far off places, normally their family members reach them around a week later to collect money for household expenditure. In fact, till then constables carry their salary in their pockets. "In order to avoid such hardship to both constables and their families, we decided to get at least one ATM installed in each police line," Abhayanand said. Further, the DGP said, a large number of police vehicles are developing snag soon after their purchase, mainly in districts, allegedly due to use of adulterated petrol. In order to avoid the use of adulterated petrol, the police headquarters is contemplating to install a petrol pump in each police line. He said since Patna police line has a petrol pump on its campus, the police vehicles are not developing snag and their condition is also good. "However, the proposal is still in an early stage as I would have to talk to oil companies," he said.
