Tackling official-criminal nexus not easy: DGP Abhayanand

PATNA: DGP Abhayanand on Friday said that the power of black money and nexus of corrupt officials and unscrupulous elements was dangerous affecting the law and order. He said that tackling normal law and order problem is easier than the law and order problem caused due to such nexus.
In an interaction with the members of trade and industry at the Bihar Industries Association (BIA) auditorium, Abhayanand said that it is a misconception that investments in the industries would come only when the law and order situation has improved. To drive home his point, he said that around five years back the NRIs attending a meet at Patna told him that they were least bothered about the law and order situation. They said that they wanted people here whom they could trust to run their units.
Replying to a query about tackling the problems of attack on public property and related incidents, the DGP said that the police would capture such incidents with camera to store evidence to be produced before the court in the cases of vandalism. He said that the police would not resort to lathicharge anymore while tackling such agitations. If the mob burns the police jeep, police firing is not necessary unless the life of the policemen is in danger, Abhayanand added. Once the people involved in damaging public property are photographed by the police, they would face six months' sentence on the basis of evidence documented in the camera and their chances of getting passport or gun license would be jeopardized, he said. BIA president S P Sinha talked about the concern of the industry on law and order situation, particularly inNaxal-infested districts.
