IPS officials honour octogenarian cops


PATNA: It was evening of a different kind asIPS officers gathered at the IPS Mess here on Saturday to honour retired IPS officers who had attained the age of 80 years and also some of the widows of retired officers. 

Senior vice-president of the Retired IPS Officers Association of Bihar G Narain said that it was for the first time that such a function had been organized to honour octogenarians who served the Bihar police in different capacities and left their mark by their sheer grit, honesty and dedication towards work. S B Sahay, a 1952-batch IPS official who retired as DGP in 1988 and is also the founder-president of the association, was honoured with a silk shawl and a replica of Ashokan Pillar as memento. Others who were honoured included Babban Singh, N C Mishra, Vishwanath Singh, Sahdeo Ram, K D Singh and R B Singh. Krishnanand, wife of former DGP late Jagadanand (father of present DGP Abhayanand), Mukula Jha, wife of late M K Jha, and wives of late A N Trivedi, Anil Pandey and Bindeshwari Singh. The occasion was graced by former governor of Chhattisgarh and Tripura D N Sahay, who had himself retired as DG, Bihar police. IPS officers from Jharkhand, including former DGP Neyaz Ahmed, K B Singh, B C Verma and Bhavesh Thakur, were also present on the occasion. Y N Srivastav said the association has decided to call on all such retired IPS officials who are very old and alone and may need some help on regular basis. "We would do our best to address their needs," Srivastav added. Serving Bihar IPS officers such as DG U S Dutt, DGP Abhayanand, DG Ashok Kumar Gupta, DG V Narayanan, ADG Sunit Kumar and ADG A C Verma were present on the occasion.
