DGP Abhayanand says Corruption May Become Economic Offence in Bihar

In a bid to curb corruption, Bihar police has proposed to make the scourge an economic offence and strengthen the agencies dealing with such crimes.

DGP Abhayanand told reporters that though the vigilance bureau has been dealing with corruption cases, it was felt that the police department could deal with such cases on its own.

Police would bolster its economic offence wing to check the menace, he said.

Abhayanand, who participated in a meeting of civil and police officials presided by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, said ensuring peaceful and crime-free law and order situation were his top priorities.

Principal Secretary (Cabinet Coordination and Secretariat) Ravikant told reporters that the chief minister directed that peaceful law and order situation be maintained with zero tolerance policy towards communal and social strifes.
